The Church Accountant will be responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, preparing accurate and timely financial reports and statements, preparing budgetsand ensuring appropriate accounting control procedures are established. This role shall provide accounting support to the zonal churches across four other provinces.
-Oversee all WCI Toronto bank transactions and monitor all bank accounts for the church.
-Safety oversight of the Church's security safe, receipts, vouchers, booklets, registers and vital documents.
-Maintain adequate and complete documentation of cashbook, subsidiary and general ledgers.
-Oversee the daily running and operation of the Dominion Bookstore on all financial matters.
-Accountable for adequate banking of all income and proper authorization of all church expenses.
-Design and operate satisfactory accounting controls over WCI Toronto’s assets and liabilities (as applicable) and
all external transaction of the church.
-Prepare and submit accurate and reliable reports, summaries, analysis and insights to support the review of WCI Toronto’s financial position on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis asrequired. Some of these reports include: Income and Expenditure Summary, Bank ReconciliationStatement, Income Analysis etc.
-Provide accounting and finance information as required by Management and council to plan andcontrol the activities of the Church.
-Ensure timely submission of financial reports to the National Office (NMFR).
-Liaise with the HR Officer on monthly payroll activities.
-Establish and maintain a comprehensive filing management system for the Church.
-Ensure prompt payment of utility bills, recurring monthly subscriptions etc.
-Oversee Covenant Room operations such as cash counting, cash deposits and cash pickup.
-Prepare and balance station income budgets, perform midyear budget review, prepare variance and budget adjustment reports where applicable.
-Institute compliance with the GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
-Responsible for the maintenance of all accounting systems.
-Champion monthly, quarterly and year-end close including point person for year-end audit.
-Work cross-functionally within the Church.
-Maintain and improve accounting processes, policies and procedures.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
-Bachelors Degree in Accounting or similar field.
-2+ years experience in a similar role required.
-Skilled in effective use of applicable technology/systems.
-Ability to effectively communicate. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
-Must be able to multitask, understand and work with deadlines and maintain a high level of confidentiality in all matters of the job.
-Knowledge of and experience with GAAP standards/compliance.
-Accounting management experience.
